Overview

Cacio & Pepe Al Viminale Trattoria Pizzeria is a welcoming Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of Rome at Piazza del Viminale, 1. This charming trattoria captures the essence of Roman dining with its cozy family-run atmosphere and authentic decor, enhanced by a soft Italian bossa nova soundtrack that sets a relaxed and genuine mood for guests.

The menu shines with classic Roman dishes, where the carbonara and amatriciana pasta stand out for their traditional preparation and comforting flavors. Patrons frequently praise the freshness and quality of the ingredients—highlighted especially by the perfectly cooked fish fillet, which offers a simple yet memorable culinary experience. The house white wine complements the meal well, adding to the overall satisfaction.

Service is one of the restaurant’s strongest points. Attentive and polite staff, such as Giada, provide attentive and warm service, often described as personable and efficient. This level of care enriches the dining experience and lends a familial touch that fosters a sense of being genuinely welcomed rather than just served.

While some desserts like the tiramisu receive mixed reviews—ranging from a luscious mascarpone finish to a heavier, less balanced version—the overall quality of the food remains high. The atmosphere benefits from the restaurant’s relatively intimate size and quiet setting, appealing especially to those seeking a peaceful meal away from crowded tourist hotspots.

Located conveniently in central Rome, Cacio & Pepe is ideal for travelers and locals who appreciate authentic Roman flavors served in a laid-back environment. Its appeal lies not just in the dishes but in the combination of warm hospitality, traditional tastes, and the inviting space that encourages lingering over good food and conversation.

For anyone visiting Rome who values genuine Italian dining with a focus on classic recipes and a homey feel, Cacio & Pepe Al Viminale is a noteworthy choice. Whether arriving during a quieter afternoon or a bustling evening, expect well-prepared meals, courteous service, and a true taste of Roman trattoria culture.

We arrived at Cacio & Pepe based on the reviews we saw on Google. There were some very good reviews, but there were also some that made us hesitant about choosing Cacio. We decided to take a chance and arrived at the restaurant around 3:30 pm on a Saturday. We don't know if it was luck or the time we were there, but we had a very good overall experience: 5 stars for the food, service, and atmosphere. It wasn't very crowded due to the time, which may have contributed to this very pleasant experience. We were served by Giada (I’m not sure if it’s written this way) who spoke English and was extremely polite and kind al the time. Her service made all the difference from start to finish. Our food arrived hot, and there was no delay in being served. We ordered appetizers, main courses, and dessert. Everything was delicious and at the perfect temperature. We ordered a house white wine, which was also good. The tiramisu had a delicious mascarpone cream! We had the impression of a family-run restaurant and hope they grow and serve new customers with the same dedication they served us. 5/5 for Cacio & Pepe and may it continue.

We had dinner at Cacio & Pepe, a cozy family restaurant with charming Roman-style décor and a relaxing Italian bossa nova soundtrack that created a warm, authentic atmosphere. The service was friendly and efficient, making us feel welcome right away. The Carbonara was tasty and nicely cooked, using a classic short pasta shape, though it could have used a touch more cream for better balance. The real highlight of the evening was the fish fillet — perfectly fresh, lightly sizzling, and beautifully seasoned. A simple yet outstanding dish. The tiramisu, however, was less impressive, with too much cream and almost no coffee flavor, making it quite heavy and far from the traditional version. Prices were fair for the quality and overall experience. In summary, Cacio & Pepe offers a pleasant Roman dining experience with good food, genuine atmosphere, and a few dishes truly worth coming back for.

Fantastic food. Four of us each ordered different items from the menu and everything was excellent. Best meal we’ve had in Rome. Flavors of each dish were so good, we were sharing with the same reaction from each person at the table. A rare occurrence.

Visited this restaurants on our first evening in Rome. Well, it was a totally successful one. A genuine perl. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. And the service was just great. At the end even the price for almost a full 3 course meal for 4 people was more than adequate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I had an amatriciana pasta, which was quite affordable compared to other restaurants around, though it was quite a small plate. You get a bread basket. Cover charge of €1.50. The place was nice and quiet and my waiter was very nice :)

What a hidden Roman GEM!! Must must visit this restaurant! Unbelievable pasta, the best tiramisu, service was soooo friendly! We basically stumbled across this place as it was just a few min walk from our Airbnb. Our first restaurant and dining experience in Rome and it was memorable!! The service was a little on the slower side but they were very busy and for good reason! But our waitress was so nice and accomodating. Must ask for their signature famous pasta dishes and try it all! I am recommending this place to all my friends and family who visit Rome! Can’t speak highly enough!

I googled this place looking for a great mom and Pop shop. It was outstanding! We Travel all around the world looking for great food. This place was quaint, amazing service, created dishes we requested, not in a tourist trap. I first found this place looking on Google reviews noticing it was 4.7 stars. They completely outdid themselves. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, Families, couples, solos. Price exceptional as well!!! I was prepared to pay a lot more. Super inexpensive for the experience they provide. Must go!!!!
